Awards Given By Nantwich In Bloom
It has been so good to see that in spite of the huge difficulties the retail, business and hospitality sectors continue to experience this year, there has been a shared determination to keep Nantwich looking good. We wanted to celebrate these achievements, therefore we have awarded ‘Certificates of Excellence’ for all the hard work.

Outstanding Contribution
When North West in Bloom judges visit Nantwich they don’t just meet members of Nantwich in Bloom but of course see the results of work done by other members of the wider ‘Nantwich ‘ community, Town Council members and staff, Ansa grounds maintenance employees, Cheshire East staff involved in street cleaning, recycling and litter picking, Nantwich Litter pickers, Nantwich Museum, Civic Society, Green spaces and Nantwich Churches. Congratulations and thanks must be given to them too. All willingly support Nantwich in Bloom not just on judging day but throughout the year.
A tremendous amount of organisation has to be done to enable all these projects to come together and run smoothly. We would like to acknowledge the enormous contribution given to Nantwich in Bloom by Sue Hughes, who retired as Secretary in April after 10 years of committed support. Sue continues on the committee, thank goodness, to offer help and advice to the new officers. Her work was also recognised by the North West in Bloom judges, as when we went to the presentation of Awards in Southport in November, Sue was given the 2019 North West in Bloom Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution’.

Lifetime Achievement Award
Another Award was collected from the North West in Bloom Awards ceremony in Southport on behalf of someone who should have been there to receive it himself.
This is the North West in Bloom Chairman’s Award for Lifetime Achievement given to Doug Butterill. We were so sorry that he was unable to attend the ceremony to collect this award personally so asked the Mayor of Nantwich to present instead.
Doug has been involved with Britain in Bloom since 1979, so that is 40 years of promoting ‘bloom’ in Nantwich and encouraging others to join him. He was Chairman of Nantwich in Bloom for many years. Latterly he has worked with primary schools, Rotary and Greenspaces primarily in Coed Wen and on Nantwich Riverside planting bulbs and wildflowers and creating a legacy for future generations to enjoy. Nantwich has benefitted greatly from all his work. Many congratulations Doug.
