News.

From time to time, the Town Council pursues particular issues on behalf of the town.  It does not always succeed but does it’s best to put forward the concerns of Nantwich residents.  Some examples of this are:-

  • The successful campaign, some years ago now, to keep a police station open in the town.  The Council still helps pay each year for the police station to be staffed and open to the public.

  • Support the Town Council gave to the establishment of the new health centre, near the Civic Hall – better, more modern facilities to enable more procedures and examinations to be carried out promptly and locally.

  • An emergency grant the Council gave the Citizens Advice Bureau about two years ago when it was threatened with closure.  It is still operating in Nantwich, partly due to regular Council funding.

  • The campaign to keep the post offices in Nantwich open.  That was ultimately unsuccessful, but the views of Nantwich people were put forward and their voice was heard.

  • Action by the Council to save Holly Holy Day.  When the Council Chairman, Councillor Cafferty heard that the Holly Holy Day Society might fold and the annual ceremony and Sealed Knot Battle might be lost, he organised meetings to provide more help and finance for the society and the event has been saved.

  • The ‘war on grot’, for example, the re-vamp of the Railway Station with the support of Nantwich Now, Nantwich in Bloom and Councillor John Lewis, who is still working hard to obtain improvements to land next to the station.

  • The continuing struggle, lead by Councillor McGinnis, to stop North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) from down grading the community first responders service in Nantwich and nearby rural areas.  The first responders have a proven record of saving lives and the Town Council and the local MP Edward Timpson have urged NWAS to reconsider their proposed changes.
