A major cycleway project linking Crewe and Nantwich has been completed and was open officially on 20th March 2013. The Connect 2 Crewe to Nantwich Greenway has been built in stages and now provides a traffic-free route between the two towns, taking about 30 minutes to cycle.
The route connects the two town centres and destinations along the way. The greenway enables people to visit these places easily by foot and by bike, and the middle section between the two towns is even available to horse riders to enjoy the views of the countryside. Toucan crossings are in place to help people cross the Middlewich Road.
A portrait bench depicting historical links to Crewe and Nantwich is located part way along the route.
Connect 2 is a nationwide Sustrans project, supported by the Big Lottery Fund, which aims to encourage people to make their everyday journeys by foot or bike. The project has been delivered by Cheshire East Highways, in partnership with the Connect2 Stakeholder Group.
