Thursday night saw thousands brave the cold weather to enjoy the annual Christmas Lights Extravaganza in Nantwich Town Centre.
Young and old ga
thered in the town centre from 5pm to take advantage of the event’s fun-filled programme, organised by Nantwich Town Council.
Chris Radford from The Cat Community Radio, compere for the evening, opened the event by welcoming young local talent, Phoebe Crew to the stage and festive cheer was added by Nantwich Young Voices singing Carols.
There was a magical performance and lots of joining in when the Snow Queen, Princess Elsa graced the stage with her repertoire of popular Disney and Christmas songs. And local band California Blue performed popular covers which had everyone dancing and led the event to the finale.
The town was adorned with funfair rides, refreshment and festive stalls; and the Mixed Up Martian and Frosty the Snowman made appearances throughout the evening.
The Mayor of Nantwich, Councillor Penny Butterill took to the stage before the countdown to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to thank the sponsors, before Santa made an appearance much to the delight of the children in the crowd.
Competition winner Emily Jordan joined the Mayor on stage along with a brave little duo Matthew Anderson and Mary Allen.
The group assisted with a countdown, which led into the Applewood Independent Christmas Tree being turned on, followed by the illumination of the lights around the town, which were greeted with cheer from the crowd.
An impressive musical firework display from Blitz followed to end the proceedings.
The Christmas Lights Switch On is always a wonderful start to the festive period and now residents can enjoy a variety of events leading up to the big day including Fashion Night Out taking place next Thursday evening (30th November) around town, a Christmas Artisan Market on Saturday 2nd December, Christmas Farmers Market on Saturday 16th December, and of course Father Christmas will be making many appearances…
