Although the planting of tubs and baskets with bedding plant varieties give a colourful display and create interest in the town centre, it is the sustainable permanent planning which gives us the most satisfaction. Along with the 1000’s of Daffodils planted over the years we have also planted Bluebells, Snowdrops, Primroses and Cowslip plants which have taken successfully, we also have a few surprise Orchids which appear from time to time.
We have been working alongside the Cheshire East Council, Greenspaces, and other environmental groups in undertaking a riverside improvement project. This project is taking place in 8 areas adjacent to the river Weaver, within the existing flood plain. The project enhances our existing wildflower meadows, which we have been developing over the last 7 years with the help of local school children we have sown the meadow with seeds and planted wildflower plugs. The meadow will consist of a variety of plant species to complement the site conditions.
We are continually introducing ‘wild’ areas to encourage wildlife back into the town and surrounding areas. We have continued planting flower species to attract Bees and Butterflies, whilst also encouraging school children to make Bug Hotels and bird Nesting boxes.
We have again witnessed a pair of swans nesting adjacent to the river near the town centre, this is the third year these swans have nested albeit that this year they have nested slightly upstream from last years location. The Swans can be seen daily with their 2 cygnets.
